Live music for corporate events can present itself with a number of unique issues. Partly because you want it to be professional, but you also don’t want to bore your guests with four hours of elevator music. Striking the right balance between fun and professional, then, is essential to make sure your event goes off without a hitch. Here at Monitor Music, we know how important your event is, so making sure it is perfect is at the top of our agenda.
So, what are the four things you should keep in mind when arranging a band for your corporate event?
Research, research, research and then do a little more research. The worst thing you can do for any event, whether it is corporate or even a birthday party, is arrange the entertainment last minute with no consideration. That is how you end up with Bozo the Clown running around the venue drenching your guests with his flower water gun. Disclaimer: if this has happened to you, we are profusely sorry for evoking such terrible memories.
It's important to take the time to look at reviews, ask around for opinions and maybe even watch a few of their performances on YouTube to get a feel for the entertainment you want to book. You will likely know after only a few minutes if the person/group is right for you, so this doesn’t have to take too much time out of your busy schedule. Five minutes may save your whole event!
Cater to All Tastes
The problem with a corporate event is that a lot of people will be in attendance. Some people might want to listen to Katy Perry while others would be more comfortable with Mozart, obviously, you can’t please both sides of such a large chasm in taste, but there is a middle ground. An all-around band, with plenty of diverse coverage, can negate this issue as far as possible.
Equipment That Fits
Sometimes your venue and your choice of the band just simply don’t fit. If you hire out a small venue and a band with a large amount of equipment, you are going to be causing a headache on the night of the event. At best, you miss out on a few key pieces of equipment and at worst the band can’t perform. Talk it out with your band beforehand, ensure your venue can accommodate them and your night will be all the better for it.
If you’re still worried about the band, it is always a good idea to ask for the band’s set list in order to make alterations that fit your event more. For example, if you see a pop hit in the middle of an otherwise chilled out setlist then you can ask for it to be changed. Or, likewise, if you feel there could be a bit more life to set you might want to request different songs. Any band you hire will want to make your corporate event as tailored and perfect for you as possible, so don’t be afraid to simply ask!
